FOCUS AREAS

We ponder the big questions... and the answers.

We believe that accelerating scalable, sustainable innovation can enable millions more people in Southeast Asia to be nourished, healthy, productive, and economically empowered.

These are not small challenges. They require organisations and people across geographies, industries, and supply chains to collaborate, experiment, and innovate together. That is where Open Innovation thrives and where we believe it can most catalyse meaningful change.

Padang & Co focuses its Open Innovation work on three interconnected areas: Food & Agriculture, Cities & Industries, and Health. These are the sectors where we believe Open Innovation can most accelerate Southeast Asia's transition to a Green Economy. Sustainability is not a separate agenda; it is the thread running through all of them. Together, they form the building blocks of a Green Economy.

The urgency is real. With the 2030 deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals fast approaching, and organisations and governments reckoning with the economic realities of a low-carbon transition, the window to act is narrow -- and the opportunity is enormous.

We believe that accelerating scalable, sustainable innovation would enable millions more people in Southeast Asia to be nourished, healthy, productive, and economically empowered.

We have identified three verticals and Sustainability as a “horizontal” as our focus areas, because they are where we believe Open Innovation can most catalyse change and result in meaningful solutions. These are big challenges and opportunities that need many organisations and people to collaborate on. Driving better outcomes requires experimentation and innovation across geographies and all parts of the supply chain.

We want to ensure that we contribute positively to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the United Nations adopted in 2015 with targets to be achieved by 2030. At the same time, we are reminded at Glasgow COP26 of the urgency to take action to achieve a low-carbon future and avert an even more serious crisis.
